Capital Grille is one of the few remaining high-end steakhouses in the downtown Dallas area. Bask in the wood-dominated décor and the old-school attentive service (complete with waitstaff business cards). Note the pictures of old Texas lawmakers gazing down from the wall, and if you ask, the staff can rattle off a few facts about each. Littleneck Clams on the Half Shell are rare on appetizer menus, but when you taste them, you will wonder why. All the beef here is dry aged and super-tender no matter how you like it cooked. With so much beef on the menu, it is no wonder several varieties of red wine are available here.
Al Biernat, formerly with The Palm, created this popular see-and-be-seen eatery. Biernat's has been refurbished in muted earth tones with soft lighting. The ceiling mural is breathtaking. Owner/chef Al Biernat is likely to greet you personally, but if he doesn't, the excellent wait staff will treat you like royalty. The Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail with Remoulade Sauce is a tasty way to get things started. A long time favorite, Al's Salad, with hearts of palm, avocado, shrimp and crab, may be the best salad you've ever had. The flagship of the dinner menu is the Caramelized Salmon with Roasted Asparagus and Eggplant with hot and sour ginger sauce.
The grand Hollywood style of days gone by is reborn in this lavish establishment. While songs from Cab Calloway and Al Jolson play softly in the background, patrons can cozy up in large over-sized booths and gaze at pictures of movie stars from the 1940s and '50s. Stone crab claws are the house specialty and a diner's favorite. Another favorite is the steak and stone crab quesadillas—a grilled flour tortilla filled with stone crab meat, grilled sirloin, minced onions and melted jack cheese. Lunch selections are equally thrilling and tasty. Options include a chicken walnut B.L.T. or kabab skewers of marinated tenderloin, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers.
