Situated in the funky but hip environment of Fourth Avenue, this bookstore specializes in books by and for women, inspired by the tradition of the ancient Greek heroine who lent her name to the establishment. Feminist essays, women's studies and lesbian material are represented along with the works of the famous women writers of all ages and nationalities. Recently, the store has expanded to include cards, calendars, jewelry and gifts; but books are still at the core of the business.

It's a big chain store, which some people might find objectionable, but it certainly attracts many customers by the sheer size of its stock and convenience to shoppers, not to mention the many discounts. There is an abundance of magazines and a large CD section with listening stations to sample music. Coffee drinks and pastries are another attraction here. These treats are bought and consumed in the bright, spacious Starbucks on the premises. Overall, this spot is a popular place for both locals and visitors to hang out, read, meet, chat, and, occasionally, listen to live performances by local musicians.
We are a worker owned, leftist bookstore located in Tucson, AZ! We sell new and used books, comics, and board games with a focus on queer & BIPOC authors, forward thinking sci-fi and fantasy, and social sciences. As a cooperative, Homeward actively resists traditional capitalist hierarchies by centering the workers; workers own the store, run it together, and make decisions as a team. Through transparency and education we aim to show the community that they, too, can own and build collectively.
Other than some gift items, it's mostly books here; books on paper or on tapes to listen to while you're driving home. Find them new and used, both for sale and for rent. This is not a specialty bookstore, but it does carry plenty of literature on 12-step programs and handwriting analysis. The shop is medium-sized and it doesn't feel as crammed as some other used bookstores. There is a good selection of greeting cards, too.
