The Powerhouse Arena

Established by Powerhouse Books, a well-known publisher of art books, Powerhouse Arena is a spacious bookstore and event space rolled into one. Going beyond just providing books on art, Powerhouse Arena hosts a number of events ranging from art exhibitions and concerts to dance performances and more. The airy space has a casual amphitheater-like setup for various events. Although literary events and visiting authors form the focal point of all events held here, the diverse variety has something in store for everyone.

Chartwell Booksellers

Now celebrating our 38th year as an independent bookstore in the heart of midtown-Manhattan, Chartwell Booksellers has long combined the best of the old and the new. We are the only standing bookshop in the world devoted to the writings of Winston Churchill. We also maintain a select, exclusively hardcover stock of newly-published general non-fiction and fiction. Our rare book specialties beyond Churchill are wide-ranging.

Barnes & Noble

Barnes & Noble began as a college book emporium. Now, this huge company sells virtually every new book you can think of. There are more than a dozen Barnes & Noble stores in Manhattan alone, including this superstore. Textbooks are still a strong point at the Union Square location, as are volumes from the great literature of the world, paperbacks and children's books. Seating is available, and authors frequently put in an appearance to sign their latest creations. Most branches have a cafe as well as an extensive magazine section.

1804 Books

A community bookstore focused on socialist literature and revolutionary theory, based at The People's Forum, a political education space and cultural center for working-class and internationalist movement building. Come visit us and learn more about the struggle for a better world!
