Power Home Remodeling is a Pennsylvania roofing company that has expanded across much of the East Coast and beyond. We named it the best national roofer of the Northeast , though it has locations as far afield as Nevada. It provides roof replacements, exterior remodeling and repairs. The company is a GAF Premium System Professional , which means it offers access to 50-year warranties from GAF that are backed by its own standout workmanship warranty.

The company has mixed reviews, with strong reviews on Google and a lower 2.3-star score (1,700 reviews) on Yelp. It is accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and holds an A+ rating with the organization. At the same time, it does have 883 complaints filed against it. A number that may seem high, but isn't uncommon for such a large, national chain.

With a tech-forward method of conducting business, good warranties and a wide suite of services, there are many reasons that Power Home Remodeling might be the right pick for your next roofing job.

Why Power Home Remodeling may be right for you

Much of what makes Power Home Remodeling great is its expertise in the bread and butter of roofing and exterior remodeling work. However, what sets it apart is how it leverages technical expertise to innovate within the space.

Project tracking keeps you in the know

One of the company's signature draws is Power Home's Project Pulse app . This piece of tech keeps you connected by updating the status of your project from within the app, along with fresh photography of its progress at every stage. When it's time for you to sign off on the project, you can also do so directly within the app.

This easy access to photo documentation and status reports is very useful for homeowners who may consider selling their home down the road. Documentation of updates you made, especially when they include hard-to-spot nuances, like underlayment choice and decking , helps you demonstrate value to the buyer.

Tech innovations don't stop there. While this doesn't directly impact your project, the company also has an in-house software platform called Nitro that helps with internal communications between various company branches and more.

It offers excellent warranties

Power Home Remodeling is a GAF Premium System Professional, which means that it has received advanced training and certification for the installation of GAF shingles. Not only is it accredited by GAF as an expert at installing their products, but it also means the company can provide the most advanced version of GAF warranties.

Most roofing warranties come in two parts . There is the manufacturer's warranty, which certifies that the roofing materials will last for their advertised lifespan, and then there's the workmanship warranty, which protects you from defects due to shoddy installation. Power Home Remodeling offers a lifetime workmanship warranty , which provides protection in the event your roof leaks or your shingles suffer from installation issues.

On its website, Power Home Remodeling writes that, "if anything comes up as a result of the installation, you are covered. Period." That said, not everything is rosy for people who have tried to cash in on this warranty, as we'll touch on below.

It's more than just a roofing company

Power Home Remodeling might be one of the best national roofing companies out there, but at its roots, it's also a full exterior remodeling company. That means, the company also installs windows, insulation, doors, siding and more. It will also install solar panels . If you're looking for a complete overhaul of your home's exterior, it's a good choice.

This is a boon, as it often makes more sense to rework the various components of your home's exterior all at once. Many of these systems, such as gutters and siding, overlap and work together to protect your home's interior. It's not uncommon for roofers to provide exterior remodeling services in addition to roofing, and some companies offer more of these services than Power Home Remodeling. However, we believe that Power Home's suite of offerings strikes a good balance that will be broadly useful for many homeowners.

Why you may want to consider another roofer

There's a lot to like about Power Home Remodeling, but the company also has some drawbacks. These are apparent in reviews, BBB ratings and some company policies.

It only works on jobs worth $5,000 and up

Sometimes, you're not sure whether repairs or a full roof replacement are necessary. Most of the time, Power Home Remodeling will only help with the latter. The company only works on jobs totaling $5,000 and up, so if your roof only needs minor work, Power Home won't be of help.

Since Power Home Remodeling will only take on the job if it exceeds $5,000, it's worth getting quotes from multiple companies so you have a full idea of what your roof needs. If you think your roof only needs a minor fix, it may be worth speaking to a local company that will perform repairs first.

Warranty complaints

Power Home Remodeling offers an exemplary lifetime warranty on labor. With many companies, workmanship warranties typically last for a handful of years and rarely exceed ten, so a lifetime warranty is a significant benefit.

That said, we've seen multiple reviews that Power Home may fail to honor its warranty obligations. For instance, a New Jersey customer reported that Power declined to honor its warranty and blamed it on the manufacturer. Similarly, a Pennsylvania customer complained of warrantied repairs that were never completed, and a New York customer mentioned that they were charged for window repairs that should have been under warranty. There's little benefit in a warranty that won't be honored, no matter how long it lasts.

Negative reviews

Power Home Remodeling's reviews are mixed, and because it's a national company, its reviews vary from one office location to the next. While its averages on Google are consistently good, Yelp often tells a different story.

The Silver Spring, Md. , location, for example, averages 2.8 stars (794 reviews), while the Chester, Pa., location averages 2.3 stars (with around 1,700 reviews).

On the other hand, the Melville, N.Y. , office averages 4.6 stars (3,829 reviews) on Google. Similar ratings at other locations on Google aren't uncommon. The differential between these review trends on Google and Yelp gives us pause.

Additionally, while its reputation with the BBB is positive — it is accredited with an A+ rating — the company has 878 complaints from the last three years. This isn't uncommon among national providers, where the BBB aggregates complaints registered toward every office into one file. However, it's still a considerable amount and worth consideration when you make your decision.

Is Power Home Remodeling right for you?

Power Home Remodeling provides a slick customer experience, expertise in GAF shingles, and technological tools that streamline the process. The company also has excellent warranties, at least on paper. Additionally, it's ready to fully remodel your home's exterior, not just its roof.

If you're looking for a comprehensive home refresh that includes siding, windows, and a new roof, this company is a good choice. Batching these tasks together can often make more sense than doing them over the years, as many parts of the system interlock and work together.

However, there are some concerns about Power Home Remodeling that are worth considering, particularly the difficulty that some consumers face in holding the company to its warranty promises. What's a warranty for, after all, if the company that provides it doesn't honor it?

Still, we believe the company is well worth your consideration. If you're more comfortable with a digital-forward approach and a national brand than making phone calls to your local roofer , it may be a good choice for you.
