What was widely viewed as a potentially dangerous situation for the Clemson football team — a road game against a gritty, tough-minded Georgia Tech team that's made a habit of making ranked teams sweat — proved to be just that.
After trailing for much of the day, the Tigers fell in heartbreaking fashion, allowing a 55-yard field goal as time expired in a 24-21 loss to the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta that dropped coach Dabo Swinney 's team to 1-2 on the young 2025 season.

The kick from Aidan Birr was the exclamation point on a frenetic final four minutes.
Clemson tied the game on an Adam Randall 2-yard touchdown run with 3:26 remaining before Georgia Tech embarked on a productive drive of its own, getting to the Tigers' 42-yard line with 41 seconds remaining.
After a Haynes King 3-yard run with 25 seconds left, Yellow Jackets coach Brent Key burned his final timeout. King ran for 2 more yards on the ensuing play, which prompted a fire drill of sorts for Georgia Tech, which rushed out its field goal unit and got the snap off before time expired.
Birr's 55-yard field goal was a career long. He's no stranger to game-winning kicks against ranked teams, either, as he knocked home a 44-yard field goal as time expired last year in a 24-21 victory against then-No. 10 Florida State in Dublin, Ireland in Week 0.
