Damari Alston makes final decision regarding future with Auburn football
Auburn running back Damari Alston elected to redshirt this season shortly after Auburn's 20-10 loss to Georgia last month, and he has made a second decision regarding his future on The Plains.
Hayes Fawcett of Rivals reported Monday that Alston plans to enter the transfer portal at season's end. Alston confirmed the report on X.
Alston, who was elected a team captain this season, was poised to take over as the premier running back in Auburn's offense in 2025 after playing a supporting role to Jarquez Hunter for two seasons. However, an early season injury and the solid play of Jeremiah Cobb prevented Alston from getting the carries he desired. Former coach Hugh Freeze delivered the news that Alston was no longer on the roster on Oct. 13, and "wished him the best."
Alston's time at Auburn ends after producing 809 yards on 162 carries with six touchdowns in just under four seasons on The Plains. Through nine games, Cobb is Auburn's leading rusher with 789 yards and four touchdowns.
