The Atlanta Falcons have opened up their mandatory minicamp and quarterback Kirk Cousins was among the players in attendance for Day 1, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
The closer we get to the start of the 2025 NFL season, the more likely it appears that Cousins will remain in Atlanta and back up Michael Penix Jr . The veteran quarterback has been the subject of trade talk all offseason, but his $27.5 million cap hit has been tough for the Falcons to unload.
While Cousins did not show up for organized team activities (OTAs), he would have been subject to fines for each day of minicamp missed.
Aside from the financial side, Cousins knows there aren't many teams looking for a quarterback. The 36-year-old told the Falcons front office that he would like to be traded to another team where he could start this season, but that just doesn't seem realistic at this point.
Atlanta's mandatory minicamp runs from June 10-11, starting on Tuesday morning. We'll have more updates from Day 1 on Tuesday afternoon. In the meantime, make sure to check out our latest 53-man roster projection for the Falcons.
