The Atlanta Falcons are signing former Minnesota Vikings kicker Parker Romo to their 16-man practice squad, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Head coach Raheem Morris told reporters that the team planned to bring in kickers to compete with Younghoe Koo , and it appears Atlanta has found its man.
Romo, 28, appeared in four games for the Vikings last season, converting on 11 of 12 field goal attempts and seven of eight extra point attempts. According to Pelissero, the Falcons worked out three other kickers besides Romo on Tuesday morning.
"Parker Romo was in camp with the Patriots," wrote Pelissero . "He was one of several kickers who worked out this morning for Falcons -- a list that also included Zane Gonzalez , Michael Badgley and Ben Sauls ."
Koo missed a potential game-tying field goal in Sunday's season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . The former Pro Bowl kicker nearly missed another field goal in Week 1. While Koo was consistent for his first five seasons in Atlanta, he's hit some rough patches over the last two seasons.
There's no guarantee Romo ever makes the team's 53-man roster, but his signing will definitely put a little pressure on Koo to perform. The Falcons will face Romo's former team this weekend when they take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
