BATON ROUGE — Kim Mulkey knows it's going to be difficult for her LSU women's basketball team to traverse the field at the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament and get to chance to play for another conference tournament championship.
News broke prior to LSU's final regular season game against Ole Miss that Mulkey has decided to rest the team's leading scorer and First-Team All-SEC selection Flau'jae Johnson until the start of March Madness. Johnson has been contending with shin inflammation for the last couple of weeks.

The Tigers (27-4, 12-4 SEC), who had pieced together a great regular season the stellar efforts of Johnson and other stars Aneesah Morrow and Mikaylah Williams to claim the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament, venture off into the postseason on a skid and some question marks after losing its last two games at Alabama and at home against Ole Miss .

LSU has a double bye and won't play in the SEC Tournament until Friday night when it'll meet the winner of No. 6 Alabama, who beat LSU last Thursday, and either No. 14 Auburn or No. 11 Florida.

LSU women's basketball predictions for SEC Tournament
Yes, there's no Johnson for LSU this week but the combination of Williams and Morrow is as strong a duo as what any other team in the league has. I think Alabama wins its game against either Florida or Auburn Thursday, setting a rematch of a game that went to overtime in Tuscaloosa.
Exacting revenge should fuel the Tigers to the victory over the Crimson Tide in their quarterfinal matchup. LSU will then advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 Texas.

This will be where LSU's SEC Tournament will draw to an end. The Longhorns have been won 13 straight games on the strength of their defense. A Tiger squad without the threat from Johnson to score will narrow Texas' focus on the defensive end and keep Williams and Morrow in check enough to win and move on the tournament title game.
