A tie for fourth place between Jonathan Alder senior Drew Damron and Reynoldsburg junior Quinn Dean led central Ohio in the Division I state boys bowling tournament Saturday at HP Lanes.
Both rolled a 705 series.
Last year's state runner-up and this season's district champion, Damron was making his third state tournament appearance. Dean, the district runner-up, was at state for the second consecutive season and improved by 21 places from a year ago.
Damron had games of 187, 240 and 278. Dean bowled games of 247, 227 and 231.
Both earned first-team all-state honors.
Parma Padua freshman Zachary Mayne won the individual title with a state tournament-record 858. He rolled a 300 game in the third round after two games of 279.
Immediately behind Damron and Dean were the Gahanna Lincoln duo of junior Kael Clous (sixth, 700) and sophomore Mitchell Genson (seventh, 693).
Gahanna led central Ohio's three teams with an 11th-place finish (3,952), 61 pins shy of the top-eight placement needed to advance to the team finals.
Senior Will Gray (tied for 48th, 606) was the only other Lions bowler to score in all three games.
