Throughout his 12 years in the NFL, former quarterback Kurt Warner etched an amazing legacy, making four Pro Bowls, winning one Super Bowl and becoming a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Despite retiring from football following the 2009 season, Warner remains closely connected to football. He currently serves as an analyst for NFL Network, while also watching his son, E.J. Warner , pursue his football dreams.
After spending the 2024 season with the Rice Owls , E.J. transferred to Fresno State for 2025. On Monday, it was revealed he'd be the Bulldogs ' Week 0 starter against the Kansas Jayhawks on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Kurt Warner Offers Heartwarming Reaction
It's a big deal for E.J., who is looking to impress on a big stage, and quickly after the announcement was made, Kurt, via an X post, shared his reaction to the news.
"So proud of this young man… just keeps proving who he is! 1 scholarship out of HS… no P5 school would give him a chance then or since… has had to EARN starting spot everywhere he’s been… and now heads into his senior season #1 in FBS in passing yards (8800+) & pass yrds/game (275/gm)… Not done yet… Let’s Go Dogs!!!," Warner said.
Yet, he is fighting an uphill battle in his first start with Fresno State, with ESPN BET placing the Bulldogs as 12.5-point underdogs, traveling to a hostile environment in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
E.J. Could Follow in Father's Footsteps
After playing for the Temple Owls in 2022 and 2023, then Rice in 2024, this is E.J.'s final year of eligibility, meaning the 2026 NFL Draft could be the next step in his football career.
However, in Pro Football Focus' big board, he is nowhere to be found among the 200 college football prospects and 15 total quarterbacks listed. That means he may be starting his NFL journey just like his father, as an undrafted rookie free agent.
A strong season with his new team could help, though, and if he's anything like his father, E.J. will make the best out of whatever opportunity is presented.
