USC RB King Miller named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for performance against Michigan
One of the biggest aspects of USC football 's 31-13 victory over Michigan Saturday was the emergence of walk-on running back King Miller . With top running backs Waymond Jordan and Eli Sanders both exiting the game due to injuries, the redshirt freshman stepped up big time, carrying the ball 18 times for 158 yards and a touchdown.
Following the game, Miller earned recognition for his performance. On Monday, he was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week , a rare instance of a walk-on winning the award.
"Honestly, hell, we didn’t have anybody else," head coach Lincoln Riley joked following the game . "So we were starting to scratch in the dirt a little bit. But [Miller] was awesome. The moment was certainly not too big for him."
On Sunday, USC got bad news, as Jordan reportedly will undergo ankle surgery and be out for at least a month . In addition, it seems as though Sanders will be out for an extended period of time as well. Hence, it appears as though Miller will lead the way for the Trojans ' running back room moving forward, including for this Saturday's top 20 rivalry matchup at Notre Dame.
