The San Francisco 49ers are traveling internationally for their Week 1 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia.
However, while San Francisco is leaving a week earlier, they don't have one of their pass rushers on the flight, as NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco reported late Wednesday nice that defensive end Sam Okuayinonu is staying at home due to a foot injury. With there still being so much time before kickoff, Maiocco also reported that Okuayinonu will be questionable for the game.
Okuayinonu, 28, has spent the last two seasons with the 49ers after playing for the Tennessee Titans in 2022 as a rookie and sitting out most of 2023. Over the last two years, he's appeared in 31 games and recorded 74 tackles, 14 quarterback hits, six sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass defensed.
With Mykel Williams on injured reserve, and both Nick Bosa and Romello Height battling their own injuries, the 49ers may be extremely thin on the edge against Los Angeles .
If Bosa, Height and Okuayinonu all can't go, San Francisco would likely be sending Keion White , Ogbo Okoronkwo and VJ Anthony at Matthew Stafford , which would obviously be a tall task for the trio.
