On Wednesday evening, five-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant threw his hat in a new ring, flipping his commitment from LSU to Miami and giving Mario Cristobal's staff another feather in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
A standout from Irmo, South Carolina , Bryant had been committed to the Tigers since January 3. However, following his official visit to Coral Gables last weekend, he chose the Hurricanes and is expected to shut down his recruitment entirely. He will reportedly no longer take scheduled official visits, including trips that had been planned with South Carolina, Texas A&M , and LSU.
The 6-foot-3.5, 245-pound defender is regarded as one of the elite prospects in the nation. Recruiting services rank him among the top players in the 2027 class, with evaluations placing him between No. 19 and No. 29 nationally. He is also considered one of the top edge rushers in the cycle, ranked as high as No. 2 at his position, while also standing as the No. 1 prospect in South Carolina.
Bryant's commitment gives Miami another prized addition to a recruiting class that has soared in the national rankings. The Hurricanes now sit at No. 3 nationally in both the 247Sports Composite and Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Miami has accumulated 18 commitments and now features four five-star prospects according to the 247Sports Composite, including cornerback Donte Wright, quarterback Israel Abrams, wide receiver Nick Lennear, and Bryant.
The flip also marks Miami's second five-star commitment stolen from another program during this cycle. Wright previously switched from Georgia to the Hurricanes, giving Cristobal two of the biggest recruiting flips in the country.
Bryant gives Miami a cornerstone piece on the defensive front. The Hurricanes targeted an premier edge prospect to develop under defensive line coach Jason Taylor, and Bryant's combination of power, explosiveness, and relentless effort made him a priority target. Miami's recent success developing pass rushers also strengthened its case, with Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor both becoming first-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft.
For LSU, the loss of Bryant is a disappointing development, though Lane Kiffin still has time to rebuild the Tigers' 2027 class after assembling the nation's top-ranked transfer portal group for the 2026 cycle.
