There’s obviously a week of football still to play that could change the board. But if the seeds remain the same after Week 18, here’s what the Patriots would face in the first round of the playoffs after their 42-10 thumping of the Jets earned them the AFC East title.
The current playoff picture:
AFC
Top Seed with bye: Denver Broncos * (13-3)
First round matchups:
* - clinched playoff berth
No. 2 New England Patriots * (13-3) vs. No. 7 Buffalo Bills (11-5) *— This would be a repeat of 2021 when the Mac Jones-led Patriots and Bills played three times. But unlike that season, New England would get the playoff game at home because they won the division.
No. 3 Jacksonville Jaguars (12-4)* vs. No. 6 Los Angeles Chargers (11-5)*
No. 4 Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7) vs. No. 5 Houston Texans (11-5)*— The Steelers are the only team that’s not locked into a playoff spot yet. Pittsburgh hosts Baltimore (8-8) in Week 18. The winner is the AFC North champion and the No. 4 seed in the playoffs. The loser is out.
