Alabama football is officially in game-week mode, and with the 2026 season finally within reach, most of the conversation surrounding this team should be about excitement.
Instead, the Crimson Tide was dealt another brutal injury blow.

Defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman will miss the entire 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during Sunday's practice. Beaman has already undergone surgery, according to Yea Alabama , with Dr. Lyle Cain performing the procedure.
For Alabama , it is a significant loss to a defensive line that already entered this season as one of the biggest question marks on the roster.
But for Beaman personally, this one just hurts. Because this isn't simply about losing a player for one season. It is another year taken away from a talented young player who has already had to spend far too much of his Alabama career fighting his way back from injury.
Beaman missed nearly all of the 2025 season because of a right knee injury after appearing in just one game. Now, as he prepared to finally return and potentially carve out a meaningful role on Alabama's defensive front, he suffered a torn ACL in the opposite knee.

That is devastating.
Football fans naturally look at injuries through the lens of depth charts, rotations and what it means for Saturday. Coaches have to do the same thing. But sometimes we need to remember there is a person underneath the helmet.
Beaman has spent months rehabbing and preparing for another opportunity. He worked his way back. He went through offseason conditioning. He made it through spring football and into fall camp with an opportunity directly in front of him. Then, just days before Alabama's season opener against East Carolina , everything changed again.
There really isn't a way to sugarcoat that.

Beaman came to Alabama as one of the more talented defensive linemen in the 2024 recruiting class. The Birmingham native starred at Parker High School and was considered one of the top prospects in the country. He chose Alabama despite interest from Auburn and several other major programs, giving the Crimson Tide another talented in-state prospect for its defensive front.
At 6-foot-4 and around 301 pounds, Beaman possesses the size Alabama wants in the interior of its defensive line.
His college career simply hasn't had an opportunity to get going. Beaman appeared in three games during his freshman season and ultimately redshirted. Then came the injury issues in 2025, limiting him to just one appearance.
Through two seasons, he has appeared in four games and recorded two tackles. Those statistics obviously don't jump off the page, but they also don't tell the entire story. The reason Beaman was important entering 2026 wasn't because of what he had already accomplished. It was because of what Alabama believed he could become. This was supposed to be the year he finally had an opportunity to establish himself.

Instead, he'll spend another season rehabilitating. And that's incredibly difficult to see.
From Alabama's perspective, however, there isn't much time to dwell on it. The Crimson Tide opens the season against East Carolina on Sept. 5, and the defensive line will immediately be under the microscope. If there was one position group Alabama fans had legitimate questions about entering this season, it was probably the defensive front.
There is talent there. There is experience there. But there are also a lot of new faces being asked to play important roles. Sophomore London Simmons is part of the group expected to lead the way, while Alabama added several veteran defensive linemen through the transfer portal.
Terrance Green arrived from Oregon . Devan Thompkins transferred from USC. Kedrick Bingley-Jones came over from Mississippi State. Those additions were important before Beaman's injury. Now they become even more important.

Alabama doesn't necessarily need one player to suddenly replace everything Beaman might have provided. The answer will probably come through the entire rotation. That is where defensive line depth matters so much.
Especially in the SEC.
You aren't playing one defensive tackle for 70 snaps and hoping he survives. You need waves. You need players who can stay fresh. You need guys capable of playing early downs against the run, handling short-yardage situations and still generating enough interior pressure to prevent quarterbacks from getting comfortable.
Beaman was expected to be another piece of that rotation.

Now someone else has to take those snaps. And opportunities are created in unfortunate ways sometimes. That doesn't make Beaman's injury any less heartbreaking, but it does mean someone else in Alabama's defensive line room is about to be asked to grow up quickly.
Maybe that's another younger player. Maybe one of the transfers takes on a bigger workload. Maybe Alabama becomes much more aggressive with its rotation. Whatever the solution is, the Crimson Tide has to find it quickly. Because the biggest concern with this defensive front isn't necessarily the starting lineup.
It's depth.
Alabama has enough talented football players to field a strong starting group. The bigger question is what happens in the second half of an SEC game when the defense has already played 50 snaps and the opposing offense decides to run the football directly at you.

That is where championship-caliber defensive lines separate themselves. They don't just have talented starters. They have eight, nine or sometimes 10 players who can contribute without the level of play falling dramatically.
Losing Beaman makes accomplishing that more difficult. It doesn't make it impossible. And Alabama isn't suddenly doomed defensively because one player was lost for the season.
That's not the point. The point is that this was a player Alabama expected to finally see healthy, developing and contributing after an incredibly frustrating start to his college career.
Now he has another long road ahead of him. And if there is any positive to be found in this situation, it is that Beaman has already proven he knows how to fight through adversity.

He has rehabbed before. He has worked his way back before. Unfortunately, he's going to have to do it again.
The challenge for Alabama is much more immediate. East Carolina is coming. Then the season keeps moving. There is no pause button because of injuries.
Kalen DeBoer and his staff have to adjust the rotation, continue developing the younger players and figure out exactly who they can trust along the defensive front.
For Beaman, though, football can wait.
Right now, the focus becomes surgery recovery, rehabilitation and eventually getting him back on the football field. Hopefully, when that opportunity finally arrives, Beaman gets the healthy season he has been working toward for so long. Because after two straight seasons disrupted by significant knee injuries, he deserves the opportunity to show Alabama fans exactly what kind of football player he can be.
Until then, Alabama has to move forward without him.
And one of the most important position groups on this roster just became even more important to watch.
