Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis reportedly suffered ligament damage in his left hand, leaving the door open for potential surgery. On Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that AD is indeed likely to undergo surgery and will miss "several months" as a result. While the initial general thought around the NBA was that Davis needing surgery would likely end trade speculation, Charania's report following the news suggests otherwise .

"Fascinating development: The Mavericks are having renewed Davis trade talks with multiple interested teams, sources said. If moved to a playoff contender, the return timeline could allow Davis to return during the postseason while establishing himself for the long-term elsewhere," Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
It seems as if Anthony Davis may have already played his final game with the Mavs . If that does indeed end up being the case, AD will have played a total of 29 games with Dallas since last February's trade.
Nothing is guaranteed at the moment, but the Mavs are seemingly ready to move on from AD based on Charania's report. The fact that he may be able to return for the postseason will enhance the possibility of a trade coming to fruition before this season's trade deadline.
Daniel Gafford is another Mavs player who could be moved before the trade deadline. Naji Marshall may also emerge as a trade candidate if the Mavs go all in on a rebuild.

Cooper Flagg continues to play well , but the 2025-26 season has been a disappointment overall. And with the one year anniversary of the Anthony Davis-Luka Doncic trade just a few weeks away, it appears that AD's tenure with the Mavs may be coming to an end soon.
