Bengals agree to terms with defensive tackle Jonathan Allen
The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Jonathan Allen , according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. It's a two-year commitment worth up to $28 million.
Allen, 31, will play a significant role for the Bengals as they were in desperate need of help at the defensive tackle position.
Once a first-round pick in 2017, Allen began his career with the Washington Commanders . He played in 109 games and logged 118 quarterback hits, 60 tackles for loss and 42 sacks during his time with the Commanders.
It was Allen's hit to the left knee of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in November 2020 that ended Burrow's rookie season.
After eight years in Washington D.C., Allen played one season in Minnesota, where he recorded 68 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 11 quarterback hits and a fumble recovery against the Bengals.
Allen can play multiple positions along the defensive line and gives the Bengals versatility in how defensive coordinator Al Golden can feature him.
The Bengals have now signed three defensive players in free agency: Allen, defensive end Boye Mafe and safety Bryan Cook .
