Add The Ringer's Bill Simmons to the group of NBA analysts unimpressed with Charlotte Hornets ' LaMelo Ball in Tuesday's 127-126 overtime win against the Miami Heat . Fox Sports 1's Colin Cowherd labeled Hornets' Ball a clown for tripping Miami Heat's Bam Adebayo , which ended the center's night before watching his team be eliminated from playoff contention.
After the Hornets win, Simmons called out Ball for his offensive approach against the Heat, per The Bill Simmons Podcast.
"I thought LaMelo just had some horrific moments in this game. Like horrific," Simmons said. "Moments that make you wonder, is this guy just never going getting it ever? Like, what is up with the decision-making? Then what happens after he throws the ball away to lose the lead on a foul on Tyler Herro , which he commits for three free throws, they come out of a timeout, and he makes an awesome driving layup to win the game.
"He was the player of the game, and the least valuable player in the game, all in the same game."
While Ball's 30 points led the Hornets in scoring, it took him 31 attempts to get there, including 2-for-12 from deep. He also finished with 10 assists, one steal, and one block. Miles Bridges added 28 points, including five threes, and Brandon Miller finished with 23 points, including five threes, as well as five rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.

Fox Sports 1's Nick Wright didn't hold back against Hornets guard LaMelo Ball after Tuesday's win against the Heat. Ball's poor shooting, coupled with his overall approach, led to a one-point overtime victory; still, it didn't sit well with Wright, he said, per Fox Sports 1's First Things First.
"I am not sorry, and I don't care if this gets clipped. That young man is a clown, and has been a clown forever, and never not be a clown," Wright said. "I don't know what he will be down the road. What I do know is the way he conducts himself on the court, and it would appear off the court, is that of an immature coddled teenager."
The Hornets will face either the Magic or the 76ers for the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference on Friday.
