The Toronto Blue Jays lost one of their key players in the game of their series against the Baltimore Orioles because of an unfortunate situation. Jesus Sanchez was hit in the hand with a ball that a fan threw to him, and he had to leave the game with an injury.
After the game, Sanchez spoke about what happened in the situation .
"It was a misunderstanding. I wasn't trying to play catch right there with them. I just looked at them and they thought maybe that I wanted them to throw the ball back to me," Sanchez said.
The good news for Sanchez is that after undergoing precautionary X-rays, the results came back negative for a fracture. As for the fan who threw the ball at Sanchez, they were removed from the ballpark. People around the situation said that it was an accident, according to Jacob Calvin Meyer of the Baltimore Sun.
"They described it as an accident. They said a young fan, about 13, saw Sánchez flapping his glove as if to indicate to play catch. The kid then threw the ball late, after Sánchez turned around. The fan was kicked out," Calvin Meyer wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
At this point, it's uncertain what will happen with the fan, but since everyone is saying that it was a mistake, there's a good chance that he won't be punished.
The Blue Jays will also have to see if they will be without Sanchez for some time with his wrist injury.
