It looks like Trey Yesavage 's shoulder is already fine. He had an impressive season debut for the Toronto Blue Jays as they defeated the Boston Red Sox , 3-0, at Rogers Centre on Tuesday.
Yesavage started the campaign on the injured list , as he was being bothered by his shoulder. But he looked quite comfortable on the mound versus the Red Sox, tallying three strikeouts, zero walks, and four hits allowed, including three singles.
The 22-year-old Yesavage pitched until the sixth inning, earning a standing ovation from an appreciative crowd when he exited the game, punctuated by a strikeout of Willson Contreras .
When asked about his performance, Yesavage did not hide his delight, according to a report from the Associated Press' Ian Harrison.
"Very happy with the performance. A lot of zeroes up on the board and gave us a chance to win," said the second-year pitcher.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider was also pleased with Yesavage's output.
"I thought he pitched really well. I thought he got better as he went on. It was just nice to see him out there competing. It was great. Good first outing for him," said Schneider.
Toronto improved to 13-16, while Boston fell to 12-18.
Yesavage helped the Blue Jays win the World Series last season, including starting in Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers . He became the second-youngest pitcher ever to start in the World Series.
In a dominant outing in Game 5, he had 12 strikeouts, setting a rookie record in the World Series.
There is no way to go but up for Yesavage as he progresses with the Blue Jays.
