The Los Angeles Dodgers made a roster move Tuesday, acquiring Tyler Fitzgerald from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations as they continued to build depth for a long season. The transaction came just hours before the second game of their three-game set vs. the Miami Marlins .

Fitzgerald brings defensive versatility as an infielder and outfielder, giving Los Angeles another flexible option within the organization. That type of coverage remains valuable for a club managing injuries, workload concerns, and the demands of a full major league schedule.
To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-hander Landon Knack to the 60-day injured list. The procedural move gives Knack additional recovery time while allowing Los Angeles to complete the deal without immediately disrupting the active roster.
The club announced the transaction on their official X account, formerly Twitter, confirming both sides of the move.
“The Dodgers acquired IF/OF Tyler Fitzgerald from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred RHP Landon Knack to the 60-day injured list.”

Fitzgerald is expected to provide organizational depth and could begin his Dodgers tenure at Triple-A Oklahoma City. That path allows the team to evaluate his performance closely while maintaining flexibility at the major league level and ensuring proper development time within the system.
For Los Angeles, the trade reflects the type of depth-focused planning contenders often prioritize throughout a season. Even minor transactions can become increasingly valuable when injuries accumulate or roster needs shift over time, especially during long stretches of consecutive games and travel demands.
As the Dodgers continue their series vs. the Marlins Tuesday night after taking Game 1 on Monday night, the roster addition gives the organization another multi-position option. While the move may not immediately change the big league lineup, it strengthens the club’s overall roster structure and provides insurance as the season progresses and challenges inevitably arise.
