The Atlanta Braves have the best record in baseball and should be getting a key bat back soon. Braves catcher Drake Baldwin was putting together a breakout season before an oblique injury put him on the shelf. According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Baldwin is working his way back and should return soon.

"Braves manager Walt Weiss said Drake Baldwin could be activated from the injured list during the next homestand, which runs from June 16-21," Bowman reported.
"He's coming along," Weiss said, per Bowman. "We're getting to the point where you start to look down the road a little bit and start to wonder when it might happen. So, I think realistically the next time we're at home."
Baldwin won the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2025 with an .810 OPS and 80 RBI. He was off to an even better start this season, with a .931 OPS and 38 RBI in 48 games before injury. Baldwin had become the primary catcher with Sean Murphy on the shelf due to a fractured finger. Chadwick Tromp and Sandy Leon have split catching duties with both players out.
That has not mattered much to the Braves' bottom line, as they are the only team with 40 wins to start June. Their putrid start set the tone for last year, ending with 76 wins. This year, they are off to a great start and are set to fly past that number. Baldwin has been a key piece, and getting him back in the lineup will be huge.

The Braves start a homestand on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, with the Pittsburgh Pirates following close behind. Then, they hit the road for sets against the Chicago White Sox and New York Mets. After that, Baldwin Watch begins when they return home to face the San Francisco Giants.
