As fans have been waiting to see the return of Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr . to play, they won’t have to wait much longer ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Miami Marlins . While there was some talk of Acuna not playing for the Braves in the Marlins series, the team has announced that the 28-year-old will return on Tuesday.
The team would release the batting order for Tuesday’s contest against Miami, with Acuna batting lead-off for the team, looking to bounce back after a 12-0 loss on Monday night. The last time that Acuna played was on May 2 against the Colorado Rockies , and he was placed on the injured list after sustaining a left hamstring strain.
He was taken off the IL ahead of Monday’s opener in Miami.
In fact, Acuna was ready to pinch-hit in Monday’s game, even looking ready during the eighth inning, but Atlanta went against it in the blowout, though the star was excited to get back out there.
“I felt like a kid about to debut in the Major Leagues, honestly super anxious like I had never played here before,” Acuña said, via MLB.com. “This sport is my life and my passion, so I think that is why I was so happy.”
How the Braves will handle Ronald Acuna Jr.
Apparently, Acuna was ready to return to the Braves after three days on the injured list, but still had to follow certain protocols.
“One can see it as a minor thing, but that can cost you the whole season. But with more experience and being smarter about it, [I was patient], so now we feel good,” Acuna said.
Atlanta manager Walt Weiss would speak on how Acuna will be eased back in as though he’s playing Tuesday, “he’s not gonna play every day” to start.
“He’ll play tomorrow, but now he’s not gonna play every day, the first few days … we’re going to take it day by day,” Weiss said.
At any rate, it remains to be seen what Acuna’s usage looks like, coming fresh off the hamstring injury, though Tuesday marks a huge step.
