Harrison and the Bullpen

After a rare tough outing against the Athletics on June 8 that saw him allow eight hits, eight earned runs (three home runs), and two walks, Kyle Harrison bounced back on Sunday.

It was not a flashy performance by Harrison. He only struck out three batters and allowed three hits while also hitting Edmundo Sosa with a pitch in the second inning. However, he went deep into the game and did it in shutout fashion.

Harrison provided the Brewers with six innings of work, which allowed manager Pat Murphy and the coaching staff to avoid going deep into the bullpen. For his efforts, Harrison was awarded the winning decision, which brings him to 8-1 on the season with a 2.47 ERA across 13 starts and 65.2 innings pitched.

After Harrison's afternoon ended in the top of the seventh inning, Abner Uribe took the mound and was effective in his role. Uribe pitched one inning and only allowed one hit before Murphy went to Aaron Ashby to close the game, and Ashby delivered in dominant fashion.

Ashby struck out three of the seven batters he faced, and likely would have gone six up, six down had it not been for a throwing error by shortstop Joey Ortiz to begin the eighth. Nevertheless, Ashby made sure the Phillies did not have an answer for him as he helped get Milwaukee to the finish line.

Blake Perkins Delivers

All season long, the Brewers have consistently found a great deal of offense in the middle innings. On Sunday, that was the case again.

After a solo home run by Jackson Chourio in the bottom of the first inning got things started, the Brewers' offense scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Milwaukee got the frame started with consecutive singles by William Contreras and Gary Sanchez , but on a ground ball by Luis Rengifo to third base, Contreras got caught in a rundown trying to score.

Subsequently, Garrett Mitchell struck out swinging, and with two outs and two men on, Blake Perkins stepped up to the plate and hit his first home run of the season.

With a 1-0 count, Perkins took an 86 mph slider from Cristopher Sanchez to left field for a three-run shot. The crowd at American Family Field erupted as Perkins cleared the bases and rounded them himself.

Perkins has struggled at the plate this season; hitting just .133. However, he showed up for the Brewers in a big way on Sunday. Now Milwaukee will have Monday off before hosting the Cleveland Guardians to kick off a three-game series on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. CT.
