Offensive production from the catcher position has been a problem for the New York Yankees . Fans know it. Brian Cashman knows it. In fact, the general manager even admitted it while recently speaking to reporters, via Gary Phillips.
"It's an issue, clearly," Cashman said of the team's catcher position.
Austin Wells' production has especially been concerning , as he is hitting just .148 to go along with a .468 OPS.

The Yankees have been linked to potential catcher trades, but there are not always many catchers available for deals during the season. Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers has often been linked to the Yankees , while Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman would be an enticing trade candidate if made available for a deal.
Cashman's admission about the Yankees' catcher position certainly suggests the ball club will explore trade opportunities. The offense has struggled overall in recent action, and New York would surely prefer to have more production from the catcher position. Jeffers or Goodman would not necessarily save the season, but they would provide an upgrade at an important position.
Aaron Judge returning from injury will feel like the most important addition in all reality, but his injury return timeline is uncertain at the moment. New York must find ways to win games despite his injury absence. Trading for a catcher would help them remain competitive in the American League East, as they currently trail the Tampa Bay Rays in the standings for first place.
The Yankees will be an intriguing team to monitor ahead of the upcoming MLB trade deadline.
