The New York Yankees have been consistently mentioned as a potential trade suitor for Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers . Jeffers has been recovering from an injury . When on the field, he is an impactful player. He would give the Yankees' catching a crucial offensive boost. The Yankees' rumored interest in Jeffers is reportedly real , according to MLB insider Jim Bowden.
"It's real, that's what I've been told, that it is real that they have interest in him," Bowden said. "That's not just rumors that are out there."
Jeffers, 29, has hit .295 to go along with a .949 OPS and seven home runs across 37 games played this season. He features the ceiling of one of the better offensive catchers in the sport.

Meanwhile, Austin Wells is the Yankees' current catcher and he is hitting .151. Catcher Ali Sanchez has a .267 batting average, but he only has 30 at-bats this season.
Defensive value is crucial at the catcher position. Being able to handle and develop chemistry with the pitching staff is also of the utmost importance. With that being said, the Yankees are lacking offense right now with both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton injured. They would surely love to get more offense from the catcher position, and a trade for Jeffers could make that happen.
Nothing is guaranteed to come to fruition, of course. Jeffers will draw interest from other ball clubs in need of a catcher if the Twins make him available for a trade. According to Bowden, though, the Yankees have legitimate interest in the Twins catcher.
