The winds of change are blowing through Vancouver , and a new general manager isn't the only place where tweaks are being made. The Canucks have fired head coach Adam Foote after just one season at the helm, as first reported by TSN's Darren Dreger.

"The Vancouver Canucks continue to make changes. Sources say Adam Foote has been let go as head coach. Other changes to the coaching staff also being made," the hockey insider wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday afternoon.
The organization let go of Patrik Allvin earlier in the offseason , and Foote is the next casualty after the Canucks finished 25-49-8 and dead last in National Hockey League standings in 2025-26. Former president Jim Rutherford announced his decision to step down at the beginning of May.
Foote still had two seasons remaining on his contract, but will now be a free agent. As Dreger reported, Kevin Dean, Scott Young and Brett McLean were also dismissed.
The decision was made by new co-presidents of hockey operations Daniel and Henrik Sedin, along with general manager Ryan Johnson, all of whom were hired last week.

It's not an overly shocking decision, as Foote's one and only campaign in British Columbia was an unmitigated disaster. The Canucks were 30th in goals-per-game, 32nd in goals-against-per-game and 31st on the penalty kill this season.
The roster saw significant overhaul as well, with superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes being traded to the Minnesota Wild. That move confirmed the start of a rebuild in BC, and veterans Kiefer Sherwood and Tyler Myers were also moved ahead of the trade deadline.
The 58-year-old Foote was an assistant under former head coach Rick Tocchet — who is now behind the Philadelphia Flyers bench — for three seasons. He had previously worked with the Colorado Avalanche from 2011 to 2017, before serving as the head coach of the Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets from 2018 to 2020.
Prior to coaching, Foote enjoyed a successful NHL career, suiting up for 1,157 games across 19 seasons for the Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets. He won two Stanley Cups with the Avs in 1996 and 2001.
The search for the 23rd head coach in Canucks franchise history will begin immediately.
