Jordan Walker brought glory to himself (and to the St. Louis Cardinals) on Monday, as he topped the star-studded field at the 2026 MLB Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park.
But in the eyes of Walker, winning the event is just one thing, and that's a bigger reason why he wanted to come away with the title.
"I mean, I hope it means a lot to them. I want to be a role model for the black kids, you know, and I want more black kids in baseball, the Cardinals star outfielder said after the Derby (h/t Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY).

"Hopefully this raises some awareness. I know a lot of them are playing basketball, football route, but I want them to know the baseball route is open to them too. And there are a lot of kids that are athletic enough and mentally strong enough, black kids that can play this game, and I want to see them do it."
Walker surely got people's attention with his success in Philly, and kids who saw him win the Derby could one day make it to the big leagues and look back on this day as a true baseball inspiration.
Walker started strong in the Derby with 13 home runs in the opening round, tied with Boston Red Sox catcher Willson Contreras for the most in that round.
In the semifinals, Walker outlasted Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays , 6-5, to set up a date in the championship round with Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber , who had the entire stadium behind him. But Walker overcame the odds, making some clutch home runs down the stretch to come out on top.
