The Philadelphia Phillies are hosting the 2026 MLB All-Star Game , but it was a St. Louis Cardinals star taking home major honors on Monday. Jordan Walker defeated Phillies star Kyle Schwarber to win the 2026 MLB Home Run Derby. Walker won the event with a walk-off homer in the final.
Walker tied Boston 's Willson Contreras for the most home runs in the first round. After that, he advanced to take on Tampa Bay Rays star Junior Caminero in round two. He defeated Caminero 6-5 before defeating Schwarber in the final round 12-11.
It's a moment that has not been seen by Cardinals fans in their history. Walker is the first player for this franchise to ever win the MLB Home Run Derby. Albert Pujols was runner-up in 2003, but lost to Garret Anderson of the then-Anaheim Angels.
This victory continues an incredible breakout campaign from Walker . The 24-year-old is having the best season of his career to date. He entered the All-Star break with a career-high 22 home runs and 74 runs batted in. He is slashing .294/.354/.532, with all three totals representing a career best mark.
His strong play is part of the reason St. Louis finds itself over .500. They are 50-45 at this point in the season, sitting 8.5 games back of the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers . They are only one game back of the Miami Marlins for the final NL Wild Card spot, though.
Walker is having an incredible season, and he gets some individual honors at the Home Run Derby to boot. It will certainly be interesting to see what the Cardinals star has in store once he takes the field in the MLB All-Star Game itself.
