In today's NBA, debates and comparisons between current and former players are as common as ever. Many fans and analysts are not short on passion when it comes to figuring out who the better players are, and few debates continue to split opinions more than the one between Dwyane Wade and James Harden .
The debate continues to divide everybody due to how polarizing the two players are and how different their legacies have been. Wade built his reputation as a winner, while Harden is known as one of the most unstoppable offensive forces in basketball history.
Recently, Patrick Beverley added fuel to the conversation, making it clear that while he respects Wade's greatness as a champion, he believes Harden is on another level in terms of pure basketball ability.
"I f with D-Wade, that's the homie, but when it comes to a player that can score and can get in the free throw line, can pass it out of the pick-and-roll. A lot of people were going under the D-Wade pick-and-rolls. I ain't going to front, a lot of people were letting D-Wade have that," he said .
Bev strongly believes Harden is the better player
While Bev's comment may seem a little bizarre, he isn't entirely wrong. D-Wade finished his 16-year career shooting only 29 percent from long range and really only embraced shooting threes late in his career.
At the same time, Harden has remained as deadly as ever from beyond the arc in his current 17th season, averaging 36 percent in his career and this season. However, Wade's game didn't really thrive from the long range; he built his illustrious career as one of the game's most electric slashers.
Not to mention that he has built an identity around being reliable in the postseason , capturing three rings, including an iconic performance in the 2006 Finals against the Dallas Mavericks , while Harden has developed a reputation for disappearing in the playoffs and is still searching for his first ring.
But despite how successful and lethal D-Wade was in the paint, Beverly still believes Harden is a better player, citing their individual awards and abilities.
"Does D-Wade have clutch genes? Absolutely. At times, have we seen D-Wade be more clutch than James Harden? Yes, we have," stated Bev. "But when you talk about a better player, like James Harden is the better player than Dwyane Wade ."
"People get it confused 'cause they think about, 'D-Wade won a championship,' and you can't take that away, right? But championships, that's a team award. I'm talking about individual awards, who's a better player? You have to go James Harden," he continued.
Bev even doubled down on his take, posting screenshots on X of Harden having the advantage in almost every individual statistic over Wade. For him, there is no denying Wade's legacy as a team player, but he will still put the Beard over some of the best shooting guards in history.
"No disrespect to A.I. and Dwyane Wade, I don't even think it's close," Beverley said. "I think James Harden is probably one of the best scorers this game has ever seen. We need to applaud that."

The Wade-Harden debate continues to polarize fans
Beverley's argument centers solely on individual achievements rather than including their overall careers. And it is exactly why this long-running debate has continued to rile up fans and analysts over the years.
The argument about Wade will always be that he was one of the most dangerous all-around players in the league at his peak, leading multiple championship teams, but slowed down at the end.
Meanwhile, Harden is still playing at the highest level and is already regarded as one of the best offensive weapons in NBA history, highlighted by one of the most dominant offensive seasons in 2018, which earned him an accolade D-Wade failed to capture in his career: an MVP.
The debates come down really to perception. Wade is seen as a winner, while Harden is lauded as an individual anomaly. Beverley's comments may not settle the debate. Still, they do capture why ot continues to exist and why comparing greatness is and never will be simple.
