Could Notre Dame hoops make a change at head coach after this year?
Notre Dame was embarrassed by the No. 1 team in the country Duke on Tuesday night, but any hopes for a change in leadership look like it will fall on deaf ears .
The Irish are expected to bring back head coach Micah Shrewsberry for at least one more season despite the mounting frustration being expressed by fans after the 100-56 home loss to the Blue Devils.
ESPN's Jeff Borzello reported there is "no appetite make an immediate move" at Notre Dame. And with Shrewsberry under contract through the 2029-2030 season, Jeff placed him in the "probably at least one year away" category for his coaching carousel guide. Jeff suggests that it is probably in the University's best interest to invest whatever buyout resources that may exist, into bringing better basketball talent to South Bend.
Head coach Micah Shrewsberry is in his third year in South Bend and has an 40-54 overall record along with 18-37 in the ACC. The early struggles may not have been a huge surprise as Notre Dame was certainly considered a "down" program when he was hired over from Penn State. Even this year, the team has had to deal with significant injuries to key players such as Markus Burton that has contributed to them falling short of expectations.
Three years into Micah's tenure, Irish fans have not been able to celebrate noticeable improvement to their basketball team, and it looks like they'll have no choice but to wait at least one more year to see it.
