According to a report by Spanish media outlet ABC, Olympiacos have reached an agreement on personal terms with Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas . The sale of the Swiss international is crucial for the Andalusian side's sporting director, Jose Ignacio Navarro, to meet the salary cap requirements to complete their final signings of the transfer window.
Olympiacos started the bidding process with an initial offer of €12 million; however, Sevilla have set an asking price of €15 million, including bonuses. They are working behind the scenes to find an agreement on transfer fees soon, as the window draws to its last stretch.
It is worth noting that Sevilla failed to reach an agreement with the Marinakis Football Group earlier this summer for the sale of former youth team star Joaquín Martínez Gauna, commonly known as Oso. Negotiations between Olympiacos' owners and the Sanchez-Pizjuan dwellers occurred but quickly fell off due to a huge gap in both of their respective valuations for the player.
Sevilla have a host of signings to register before the transfer window ends, and if they manage to hold on to their €15 million price for Vargas, they will make a significant €10 million profit from his sale. This amount will be more than enough to officially announce their new faces, but they must do it within the next few days.
Vargas has been yearning for a future away from Sevilla since returning from the World Cup, where he represented Switzerland. The LaLiga outfit has also acquiesced to his demand and opened the exit door. Agreeing on the salary structure and potential contract with the Red and Whites from Piraeus helps both clubs to prepare for a quick transfer and fee initiation.
Olympiacos have an outgoing winger in their squad as of now, Gelson Martins . The Portuguese has reportedly agreed on terms with Russian top-flight side FC Krasnodar and is preparing for a possible transfer soon. As per a report by Olympiacos Roundtable, the current valuation gap between Krasnodar and the Greek giants is just €2 million, and this figure can be bridged through bonuses or an outright increase in the bid. Martins joined Thrylos in the winter window of 2024, and he went on to win the double in his first full season at the club, scoring seven Super League Greece goals.
We can expect a deal between Sevilla and Olympiacos in the coming hours as talks have been stepped up. Vargas would be yet another addition to Jose Luis Mendilibar's squad in a rather busy transfer window for the club.
