The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed a 3-2 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, thanks to Ketel Marte 's ninth-inning walk-off home run at Chase Field.
The homer came off Los Angeles left-hander Tanner Scott on the first pitch Marte saw, a fastball that he drove 431 feet into the left-field seats. The swing produced Marte's second walk-off home run of the season and of his career. After making contact, he tossed his bat toward Arizona's dugout and completed his trip around the bases.
"It was very special," Marte said of the blast. "Like you mentioned, now I have two, and since it was against the Dodgers, it was big for me."
Marte's first career walk-off home run came on May 19 against the San Francisco Giants , a three-run shot off Matt Gage . That made Thursday's blast his second walk-off homer in just over two weeks after more than 11 years in the major leagues.
The Diamondbacks (33-29) earned a series split against the Dodgers (40-23), rebounding in a four-game set.
Arizona trailed 2-0 through seven innings before Corbin Carroll kicked off the rally with a leadoff home run in the eighth inning off Will Klein , his ninth of the season. Geraldo Perdomo later tied the game with a two-out RBI single off Alex Vesia .
Earlier in the game, Los Angeles starter Justin Wrobleski held the Diamondbacks scoreless across six innings, allowing six hits. The Dodgers' runs came in the fifth inning after a collision at first base involving Arizona first baseman Ildemaro Vargas and Max Muncy , both of whom left the game. Ryan Ward added an RBI double, and Dalton Rushing drove in another run to give Los Angeles a 2-0 lead.
Ryne Nelson pitched seven innings for the Diamondbacks, allowing two earned runs. He did not allow a hit through four innings until Kyle Tucker 's leadoff single in the fifth.
Paul Sewald (2-4) worked a scoreless ninth inning before Marte's ninth-inning homer clinched the victory.
