On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that Shohei Ohtani will not participate in the MLB All-Star Game due to a knee injury. He was previously expected to be the designated hitter for the National League team , but now Ohtani will spend the break recovering from the injury. Manager Dave Roberts commented on Ohtani's injury situation before the Dodgers' game on Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks , via David Vassegh.
" Dave Roberts said he knows Ohtani wouldn't be available tonight yesterday. Roberts doesn't believe anything changes Ohtani pitching in 2nd half. TBD when he slots in after All-Star break," Vassegh reported.
The injury does not seem to be too serious. While the MLB All-Star Game is a popular event, the fact of the matter is that it is an exhibition. The Dodgers do not want to risk further injury by having Ohtani play in the game, and the team also wants to use the break as a time for Ohtani to recover from the knee concern.

Fans are surely disappointed about the news, but the Dodgers' goal is to win a third consecutive championship. They will need Ohtani on the field to accomplish that goal. Having him available as both a pitcher and hitter in the postseason would make things especially challenging for opposing ball clubs.
Updates on Shohei Ohtani 's injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available. Meanwhile, the Dodgers and Diamondbacks will play in Los Angeles on Friday night at 10:10 PM EST.
