FOXBOROUGH – Drake Maye wrapped up the 2025 NFL season in impressive company.
On Sunday, the quarterback became the most accurate quarterback in Patriots franchise history. Maye finished the season with a 72.0 completion percentage, breaking Tom Brady ’s franchise record (68.9) from the 2007 season.
Maye also became the first Patriots quarterback to lead the NFL in completion percentage since Brady did so in that 2007 campaign.
Maye said the only stat that mattered this season was wins.
“Yeah, I think 14 wins. That’s the first thing that comes to mind,” Maye said on Sunday. “14 wins and probably 8-0 on the road. That’s probably the thing I’m the most proud of is going on the road eight times and coming out victorious in all of them. So that was pretty cool.”
Maye also broke another Brady record by recording 13 games in a single season with a passer rating of at least 100.0. The NFL record is 14 by Aaron Rodgers in 2020. Maye tied Patrick Mahomes for the second most in league history.
Maye’s 72.0 completion percentage ties him for the fifth-best in NFL history, trailing Drew Brees (74.4 and 74.3), Tua Tagovailoa (72.9), and Jared Goff (72.4).
The second-year quarterback finished this season fourth in the NFL in passing yards (4,394) and third in passing touchdowns (31). Along with leading the league in completion percentage, Maye also led the NFL in quarterback rating (113.5). His passer rating is the second-best in Patriots history behind Brady’s 2007 season (117.2).
Maye is the eighth quarterback in NFL history to finish a season with a completion percentage of 70.0 or better, at least 4,000 passing yards, and at least 30 passing touchdowns.
Maye started this season as the second-youngest starting quarterback behind J.J. McCarthy . He finished the year as the third youngest, with Jaxson Dart starting in New York. His age makes his accomplishments even more impressive.
Maye put together one of the best seasons for a second-year quarterback in NFL history.
His passing yards are the seventh most among second-year quarterbacks, trailing Mahomes, Dan Marino, Justin Herbert , Joe Burrow , Drew Bledsoe, and Blake Bortles . His 72.0 completion percentage is an NFL record for a second-year quarterback.
As Maye noted, the biggest stat is wins. His 14 victories this season tie him with Marino and Bo Nix from this season for the most wins by a second-year quarterback in NFL history.
