Drake Maye has the chance to match a landmark Tom Brady achievement at Super Bowl LX, and the comparisons between the two quarterbacks may help explain why Brady was initially slow to endorse the Patriots .
At just 23 years old, Drake Maye will lead New England in a Super Bowl during only his second NFL season, following a path strikingly similar to the one Tom Brady took earlier in his career.
The parallels have dominated Super Bowl week discussion, but the weight attached to them may also explain the careful tone surrounding Brady's public support.

Tom Brady reached the Super Bowl in his second NFL season and went on to win his first championship, laying the foundation for one of the greatest careers in NFL history.
Drake Maye now has the opportunity to do the same, becoming the first Patriots quarterback since Brady to reach the Super Bowl so early in his career.
Maye has repeatedly said he is not trying to replace Brady, instead stressing that he wants to build his own legacy rather than live inside constant comparisons.
That context adds nuance to Brady's initial reluctance to fully endorse the Patriots publicly, as a Maye victory would tie one of Brady's most iconic early career achievements and accelerate inevitable comparisons.
Beyond Maye's personal milestone, Super Bowl LX carries historic implications for the Patriots as a franchise.
A loss would give New England the most Super Bowl defeats by any team outright, separating them from every other franchise in an unenviable category.
The possibility adds another layer of pressure to the matchup and complicates how the game will be remembered, regardless of Maye's individual performance.
With franchise history, legacy comparisons, and league records all at stake, Super Bowl LX represents a defining moment for how the Patriots' past and future intersect.
