Drake Maye used his legs to pick up a critical first down after the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter to help seal the Patriots ’ 10-7 win over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game .
But the Patriots quarterback didn’t tell his offensive line he was going to turn on the jets and get the yards himself.
Garrett Bradbury revealed postgame that the play was supposed to be a handoff to running back Rhamondre Stevenson . When the center realized the running back never had the ball and Maye went running he said, ‘ Oh my god .’
“After the game, Drake’s like, ‘I debated telling you guys if I was gonna (keep)it or not. But I just decided not to.’” Bradbury said, via the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan . “I’m expecting Rhamondre to try and hit a hole. And I turn around, Drake’s over there with the ball, and I’m like, ‘Go, go, go!’ Because we didn’t know.’”

After the game, Maye said the Broncos “got a little lackadaisical” and he had a chance to get the first down.
“I thought he was gonna track me and hawk me down,” he said . “But I got enough to pick up the first.”
The Patriots went into victory formation after that and punched their ticket to Super Bowl 60 where they’ll take on the Seattle Seahawks .
