The Anaheim Ducks swung a trade earlier this offseason to acquire the rights to pending free agent AJ Greer. The Ducks sent captain Radko Gudas to the Florida Panthers in exchange for the ability to beat other teams to Greer. After some negotiations, Anaheim has finally signed its man.
The Ducks and Greer have agreed to a four-year contract , as first reported by The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta. This contract carries an annual average value of $4.5 million. Pagnotta notes that Greer will have a 10-team no-trade clause through the life of the deal.
Greer's time with the Panthers comes to an end after two seasons. He played an important depth role for Florida as they repeated as Stanley Cup champions in 2025. This past season, the 29-year-old Quebec native had the best season of his career. He scored 17 goals and 35 points in 78 games for an injury-riddled Florida squad.
Now, Greer heads to a Ducks team looking to build upon last season. Anaheim contended for the Pacific Division title for much of the season. They ended up losing the Pacific Division title, but made the Stanley Cup Playoffs all the same. Anaheim made the second round of the playoffs, losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in six games.
The Ducks have already made some moves, trading Mason McTavish to the St. Louis Blues at the 2026 NHL Draft. Now, they are adding some forward depth for the season ahead. It will certainly be intriguing to see what they have in store once NHL Free Agency begins on Wednesday.
