When discussing Dwyane Wade 's career, we're looking at one of the most spectacular NBA careers of this century, and God knows there have been countless phenomenal players to come through the league over the past 25 years.
It's hard to describe the Marquette product as underrated because even today, people still remember his incredible performances in a Miami Heat uniform and the spectacular plays that continue to circulate on social media.
The Flash was undoubtedly a full package, and he is well aware of that, as he is anything but modest when reflecting on his 16-year career.
"I don't think no one is a better basketball player than me. I think they had better careers because they had more, they were healthy." Wade said on his podcast. "Not because they were better than me. I don't think no basketball player is better. Can he score better? Can he dribble better? It's things that they do that's better."
"I don't personally believe any basketball player has ever been better than me," Wade added. "That's our mentality. That's the only way you become great. If you are stubborn like that and you think that way and people probably like, you're crazy as hell. No, no, no. He does things better than me. He's not a better basketball player."
Wade's mentality was always team-first
Wade is a player who didn't rack up as many individual accolades over his career, never winning an MVP or leading the league in scoring multiple times like James Harden , a player he is often compared to.
However, D-Wade led the Heat to their first-ever championship in just his third season alongside Shaquille O'Neal as his sidekick, showing the entire world that he truly belongs in the conversation among the greatest players of his era.
Still, there was never much debate about the fact that Kobe Bryant was the best shooting guard of that generation, nor that Tracy McGrady or Carmelo Anthony were deadlier scorers, while LeBron James was widely regarded as one of the best all-around players of that era.
But even if Wade was not the best at any single thing, he was so good at so many things that he ultimately earned three NBA championships, a Finals MVP award, an Olympic gold medal and five NBA Finals appearances.
On both ends of the floor, very few players dominated as he did in his prime. Today, he is the player with the most blocks and dunks in history for players 6-foot-4 and under.
Also, his greatness was best shown when he chose to take a secondary role alongside LeBron in Miami during his prime. Not because he wasn't capable of being the primary option, he proved in the 2011 NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks that he could lead even alongside LeBron, but because his mindset was always rooted in putting the team first, a rare trait for a player of his caliber in his prime.
Very few players were more dominant than D-Wade on a basketball court
His relentless drives to the rim and his midrange game were lethal, as he was one of the fastest and most crafty scorers of his era, later developing into a very good playmaker while also consistently defending the opposing team's best players.
Although he did not sustain major injuries throughout his career, his reliance on speed and athleticism meant that even a few setbacks reduced the explosiveness that made him unstoppable in his prime. Still, he managed to adapt and remain productive in the later stages of his career.
His numbers may not jump off the page, but anyone who watched prime Wade knows there were very few players more dominant than him on a basketball court.
