The 2026 NFL Draft has come and gone, and the Pittsburgh Steelers strayed from consensus with multiple picks. Time will tell what the new additions can provide, but the verdict is in one former black and gold selection.
The NFL Consensus Big Board named former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds (No. 28 overall, 2018) as the biggest non-quarterback NFL Draft reach since 2016.
Edmunds, a Virginia Tech product, spent the first five seasons of his career with the Steelers, playing in 79 games but never living up to first-round expectations. During that time, he recorded 410 tackles, five sacks, one fumble recovery, 26 passes defensed and five interceptions.
Edmunds left to join the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal in 2023, but was traded to the Tennessee Titans that same season. He also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024 before rejoining the Steelers for five games.
Edmunds played in one game for the Las Vegas Raiders last season.
Rounding out the top five biggest reaches since 2016 were Alabama State offensive tackle Tytus Howard (No. 23 overall, Houston , 2019), Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin (No. 8, Tennessee, 2016), Chattanooga guard Cole Strange (No. 29, New England , 2022) and Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple (No. 10, New York Giants , 2016).
