Black Monday came early for one NFL coach.
The Falcons fired Raheem Morris hours after their Week 18 win over the New Orleans Saints , the team announced. They also fired general manager Terry Fontenot.
“I have great personal affinity for both Raheem and Terry and appreciate their hard work and dedication to the Falcons , but I believe we need new leadership in these roles moving forward,” Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement. “The decision to move away from people who represent the organization so well and have a shared commitment to the values that are important to the organization is not an easy one, but the results on the field have not met our expectations or those of our fans and leadership. I wish Raheem and Terry the absolute best in their future pursuits.”
Morris was hired as Atlanta’s coach in 2024 over Bill Belichick. He went 8-9 in consecutive seasons.
Several players voiced their support for Morris to return in 2026 after Sunday’s win.
“I want Rah back with all my heart,” Drake London said .
“I’m going to support Raheem no matter what,” Bijan Robinson said. “So, I love him as a big brother, father figure, coach, everything, and just go from there.”
Morris said his expectation was to “always be back.”
The Falcons now have big holes to fill this offseason as they look to return to the playoffs in 2026 for the first time since the 2017 season.
