On Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Clippers saw their 2025-26 NBA season come to an end with a brutal home loss against the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament. Kawhi Leonard went dormant down the stretch of this game after a hot start, largely finding himself locked up by Warriors star Draymond Green in the fourth quarter.
Now, more stats have been unearthed showing just how much of an uncharacteristic performance it was for Leonard in crunch time against Golden State.
" Kawhi Leonard was worth -8.3 net points in the second half, a half they lost by 13, with 5 tovs and just 20% usage. He was worth -6.9 in a game they lost by 5, a threshold loss," reported Dean Oliver on Bluesky.
Oliver also noted that "Draymond held him to zero pts in his HC matchup in the second half," citing a report from GeniusIQ.
Overall, it was both a masterclass of a defensive performance from Green, and an inexplicably hesitant second half from Leonard, who looked to be having his way against Golden State in the first quarter of the game.
Throughout this contest, the Clippers would routinely go up by 10-12 points, see the Warriors come back, and then push the lead back up to comfortable territory again. However, Los Angeles found itself unable to answer Golden State's final run, which ended up bringing their season to an ugly conclusion.
There will be questions this summer about the future of Leonard in Los Angeles and whether or not the Clippers may explore trade scenarios involving their best player this offseason, which started far sooner than expected with the play-in loss vs the Warriors.
