Former Jaguars CB Greg Newsome II to sign with Giants

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Greg Newsome IIwill join the New York Giants when the new league year starts on Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m.

Newsome will sign a one-year deal for up to $10 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter .

Jacksonville acquired Newsome in October, sending corner Tyson Campbell and a seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Newsome and a sixth-round selection.

Newsome, 25, started 11 games for Jacksonville, playing in 12. He totaled 29 tackles (23 solos), six pass breakups and one interception during his stint with the team.

The veteran corner was originally drafted by the Browns in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He enjoyed just over four seasons with Cleveland, primarily playing in a man-heavy scheme that allowed his talents to be put on full display.

In his career, Newsome played in 71 games (58 starters), totalling 207 tackles (163 solos), six tackles for loss, 43 pass breakups and four interceptions.

For Jacksonville, the team re-signed former seventh-round corner Montaric Brown to a three-year contract . The move solidifies Brown's spot as one of the team's starting corners with former second-overall pick Travis Hunter manning the side opposite Brown.

The Jaguars have re-signed multiple players before the start of the new league year, most recently announcing a deal with linebacker Dennis Gardeck . Multiple players including Newsome, LB Devin Lloyd and running back Travis Etienne have been reported to be signing elsewhere.

The team still has multiple players slated to hit free agency when the new league year begins.
