For the third time in their existence, which began as the NHL's 31st club prior to the 2017-18 NHL season, the Vegas Golden Knights have advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. They completed the stunning sweep of the President's Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche earlier in the week, and now await the winner of the ongoing Eastern Conference Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens .
During Friday's practice session, the club welcomed back defenseman Jeremy Lauzon to the ice, albeit in a red no-contact jersey. It was his first appearance back on the ice since suffering an injury in early May. He took a wrist-shot from Golden Knights teammate Pavel Dorofeyev to the side of the head, and while he eventually skated off the ice under his own power, he hasn't been able to play since.
An original 2015 draft selection of the Boston Bruins , Lauzon skated in 68 games during the regular season, scoring once while adding 12 assists. He's appeared in six playoff games and has yet to register a point, but has averaged 16:33 of ice time per outing.
After starting his career with the Bruins, he was exposed in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft and selected by the Seattle Kraken . Later that season, he was traded to the Nashville Predators , where he would play until being dealt to Vegas with Colton Sissons in exchange for Nicolas Hague and a conditional 2027 third-round draft pick.
Depending on the final outcome of the ongoing series between the Hurricanes and Canadiens, the Stanley Cup Final will begin on either Tuesday or Thursday.
