The Houston Texans will be very aware of Marcus Jones on Sunday.
In an impressive breakdown of the Patriots that spanned four-and-a-half minutes, Texans general manager Nick Caserio spoke highly of the cornerback twice. The former Patriots exec first referenced Jones in the same breath as Christian Gonzalez , saying he’s among the NFL’s best at what he does.
“They’ve got one of the best corners in the league in Gonzalez and probably one of the best slot corners in the league in Marcus Jones,” Caserio said. “Then in free agency they signed (Carlton) Davis, who gives them really good play on the perimeter as well. So this is a formidable defense.”
When Caserio moved on to special teams, his praise of Jones grew even higher.
“Arguably one of the best returners potentially in the history of football, from an average standpoint, Marcus Jones,” Caserio said. “He’s a big play waiting to happen.”
A Second Team All-Pro, Jones has returned 21 punts for 363 yards this season (17.3 average) and a pair of touchdowns. His career average of 14.3 yards per return is currently the best in NFL history.
