- Howie Roseman is optimistic about Eagles' outlook at safety position
The Philadelphia Eagles certainly have questions at safety. Reed Blankenship is gone . Add to that, Sydney Brown being traded away for draft picks . J.T Gray was added, but his addition seems more about adding to the special teams unit than finding solid snaps for Vic Fangio's defense. The good news? General manager Howie Roseman doesn't appear overly concerned. Speaking recently at the NFL's annual league meeting, he struck a confident tone when discussing the position, signaling that Philadelphia believes it already has the foundation in place.
More help is also on the horizon with the NFL Draft. While speaking with media members at the NFL annual league meetings, he was very vocal about his satisfaction with the defensive secondary.
That optimism centering around Andrew Mukuba is nice to see. He's a recent second-round pick who showed flashes during his rookie campaign. Roseman pointed to expected Year 2 growth as a key factor, expressing excitement about Mukuba's development and potential to take on a larger role moving forward.

That belief suggests the Eagles are counting on internal improvement rather than viewing safety as a glaring weakness. Philadelphia also has some familiarity with the room. Marcus Epps returns after proving to be a steady presence late last season . Still, the departures of players leave room for competition, and possibly another addition.
That's where the draft comes into play.
One name to monitor is Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, one of the top safety prospects in the 2026 class. A former teammate of Quinyon Mitchell , he has already met with the Eagles and brings the kind of playmaking ability that could elevate the secondary. Given Philadelphia's recent willingness to invest premium picks in defensive backs, he could be firmly on their radar. There's also the veteran route. Former Vic Fangio pupil Justin Simmons has expressed interest in continuing his career. He would bring leadership and experience to a relatively young group, although the Eagles haven't really shown any real interest, at least not publicly, about his acquisition.
In typical Roseman fashion, the message is clear: the Eagles aren't done.

While the current roster offers promise, Philadelphia is keeping its options open. Whether through the draft, free agency, or internal growth, the Eagles appear confident they'll find the right combination to solidify the safety position moving forward.
