Two NFL Network reporters posted on their social media sites on Monday that Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten will undergo surgery on a finger of his right hand that he injured during Sunday's 48-20 victory over the New York Jets at EverBank Stadium.
Tuten came out of the game after a 26-yard kickoff return in the third quarter.
Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, citing "sources" that told him and Ian Rapaport, said Tuten will miss "a few weeks, but should be back for the playoffs."
There was no immediate confirmation from the Jaguars. The first injury report of the week will be released on Wednesday.
The Jaguars are 10-4 with three games left, Dec. 21 at Denver , Dec. 28 at Indianapolis and Jan. 4 at home against Tennessee . They lead the AFC South by one game over Houston but have not yet clinched a playoff sport.
Tuten had one carry for 7 yards and caught one pass for 16 yards and a touchdown in the game.
The fourth-round draft pick from Virginia Tech is second on the Jaguars in rushing with 284 yards and has caught 10 passes for 79 yards. He has scored four touchdowns rushing and two receiving. He also is fifth in the NFL in kickoff return average 28.4 yards.
Starting running back Travis Etienne will be backed up by LeQuint Allen Jr . The Jaguars also can bring up rookie Ja-Quinden Jackson from the practice squad. Jackson was impressive at times in training camp.
