Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a finalist for the NFL's Most Valuable Player and Comeback Player of the Year awards and Liam Coen a finalist for Coach of the Year, the Associated Press announced on Thursday, Jan. 22.
Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year are among the eight individual awards that will be announced during the NFL Honors program on Feb. 5 in San Francisco , three days before Super Bowl 60.
Five finalists in each category were revealed based on voting results by 50 selected media members after the regular season. Voters selected five players and first-place votes were worth 10 points, followed by five points for second place, three points for third place, two points for fourth place and one point for fifth place.
Lawrence joins quarterbacks Josh Allen ( Buffalo Bills ), Matthew Stafford ( Los Angeles Rams ) and Drake Maye ( New England Patriots ) and running back Christian McCaffrey ( San Francisco 49ers ) as MVP finalists.
Lawrence, McCaffrey, receiver Stefon Diggs (Patriots), edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson ( Detroit Lions ) and quarterback Dak Prescott ( Dallas Cowboys ) are the Comeback Player of the Year finalists.
Coen, Ben Johnson ( Chicago Bears ), Mike Macdonald ( Seattle Seahawks ), Kyle Shanahan (49ers) and Mike Vrabel (Patriots) are the Coach of the Year finalists.
MORE FROM O'HALLORAN: Jan. 22, 2025: When everything changed for Jaguars
The Jaguars have never had an MVP or Coach of the Year winner.
Lawrence helped the Jaguars improve from 4-13 to 13-4 in the regular season and an AFC South title. Lawrence ranked sixth in the league in passing yards (4,007), fifth in touchdown passes (29) and 16th in passer rating (91.0).
Based on the All Pro voting, the MVP favorites are projected to be Stafford (league-high 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns) and Maye (fourth with 4,394 passing yards and third with 31 touchdowns). Allen is the reigning MVP and McCaffrey is the first player to be a finalist in three awards (MVP, Comeback and Offensive Player).
Lawrence is a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year after his 2024 season ended with a shoulder injury and concussion that forced him to miss the Jaguars' final six games.
In his first year with the Jaguars, Coen helped the team to a nine-win turnaround and the franchise's fifth division title. The Jaguars lost to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round. Like Coen, Johnson and Vrabel were in their first seasons with their respective teams.
