Jazz owner leaves door open for AJ Dybantsa trade-up in NBA Draft appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Utah Jazz recently had some good luck in the NBA lottery when they were awarded the number two overall pick, behind only the Washington Wizards , who got number one. The first two names off the board in this year's deep draft class are expected to be AJ Dybantsa of BYU and Darryn Peterson of Kansas.
Most anticipate that the Wizards will select Dybantsa to plug their hole on the wing. However, recently, Jazz owner Ryan Smith was asked directly if the team might consider trading up to number one to select Dybantsa and replied that "everything should be on the table," per the Desert News, via Camerson Salerno of CBS Sports.
"We don't control that," Smith said. "We are trying to win a championship. So everything should be on the table. Austin and Danny (Ainge) have also been known to do some pretty crazy stuff on draft night."
It's unclear how much the Jazz would have to give up to Washington in order to make such a deal.
The conventional wisdom is that the presence of Trae Young on the Wizards would make Dybantsa make more sense there than Peterson, who is a point guard. However, Keyonte George has also played some PG for the Jazz, which could give the team a similar issue.
Drafting Dybantsa would give Utah another intriguing wing prospect to pair with last year's rookie Ace Bailey, and would mark the latest aggressive move from a front office that last year traded for former Memphis Grizzlies power forward Jaren Jackson Jr.
In any case, the 2026 NBA Draft is set to take place on June 23 from Brooklyn , New York, and the Jazz will likely be working the phones up until that date.
